| No, actually if anything actors will still be quite underrepresented in the nominations and awards relatively speaking. There are way more actors in a season than there are directors or writers or designers. If a show is well received, there is only 1 director that will be eligible to be nominated for the direction of it. That same show will have several actors competing for recognition by the awards nominating committee, and in fact for positioning in categories for eligibility too. One show will never have 4 eligible directors, where only 1 gets nominated for their work, or where 2 or 3 make the cut somehow but the 4th doesn't. I don't think most awards committees are looking at what they're doing and saying "oh, thank god for this change... now we can finally nominate way less actors, and even give half as many of our awards! That's less actors work recognized, less actors attending our ceremony or spreading our Award name around as an accomplishment, less careers we can boost by acknowledging them with a nomination let alone a win... this is great, a lose lose for all! Hooray!" I guess you'd also like the Golden Globes to stop doing those pesky Best Drama / Best Comedy thing they do... why bother with comedies at all! I just can't wrap my head around a theater fan, who have experienced awards for 7 decades with two winners for Best Lead and Featured, in Plays and Musicals, now arguing that NOT wanting to eliminate HALF the acting awards is the same as arguing to ADD a second Best Musical winner just because. Was the legitimacy of all the acting award always in question prior to now because you'd be thinking "well... sure he won against those other men, but had he been up against the women he'd have lost to her, who won the female award... so... it's just a false award for marketing reasons."? |
