I'm not assuming anything, just suggesting that lyrics like "Blue Room" and "Why Can't I" were filtered through Hart's own longings and feelings. No one expressed sadness as evocatively as Hart and I can only guess that was partly an outlet for his own emotions. I can cite certain lyricists whose lyrics sound like they're just approximating what they think people feel. With Larry, the sentiments were truly HARTfelt. As a lyricist myself, I can vouch for the fact that my most expressive work is a merging of my own feelings with that of the characters whom I'm portraying. - Michael Colby
