Two things.

1. Really glad you liked GRANGEVILLE. So did I. I am a fan of Hunter so I wasn't surprised but I left the theatre spent in the best possible way.

2. Why do directors (and then stage managers) encourage the Baby Junes in GYPSY to be so....so.... weird? I always find it quashes any inclination to think that Rose's act is good and that June has any chance of stardom as an actress. I know the role of Baby June needs a certain over-the-top bizazz, but the kid I saw just seemed like she needed medication. (That's not necessarily wrong historically- not specifically with June Havoc but with stage kids in general - but I don't think Laurents offers any meat to chew on along these lines.) But I did like the ferocity that Dainty June had and the implication (for me) that she might grow up into another Rose. (If you don't know she turns into June Havoc, I think most people would think the possibility of abject failure was very real for her & Tulsa.)
