I didn't see it, but i know the recording. i just want to say that Sally Ann Howes was not singing anywhere near the top of her range. She was a soprano, and still had a workable upper register at the time that recording was made. The songs lie very low as I believe the recording uses the keys in which Liv Ullman sang (even though new orchestrations were done for the recording), and they were decidedly low. If Howes sounds like she's having to work hard, I think it's because of how low it all is. There may be times on the highest notes where she's pushing the upper limits of her belt range rather than going into head voice, and that may be what you're hearing. |
