| I saw the show in Chicago on Thurs., 8/18/2022 toward the end of its run. I liked it a little more than the ATC-ers who posted about it here. However, it did have a lot of problems. Beth Leavel was miscast. Vanessa Williams would seem to be a better choice. Elton John wasn't able to come up with good songs for Miranda. His best songs were for the character of Nigel Owens, played very well by Javier Munoz. The biggest problem for me was that the film is so good and so memorably cast with Meryl Streep and Ann Hathaway that it's almost impossible to make a stage musical out of it that will measure up to the movie. Just my opinion, of course. |
