| Your post supports my argument rather than refutes it. The stakes in Oliver don’t center on Fagin; they’re about a child who sings “Where is Love?” Annie, arguably an Oliver clone, has the same relationship between villain Hannigan and the title orphan. Does Andy sing “Where is A Reporting Gig?” She’s above toiling at a fashion magazine and her quest to use her Northwestern degree in journalism doesn’t take on the poignant stature of the homeless orphans above or the hero’s journey. |
