Grieving today, alongside so many who adored Linda Lavin's artistry as an actress and singer! What a treasure trove of dramatic and musical memories she has left us; and what a life well-lived! I absolutely have to share this excerpt from "Take Me To The World: A Sondheim 90th Birthday Celebration." In the clip to which I refer, Ms. Lavin recreates her hilarious rendition of "The Boy From..." from the 1966 off-Broadway hit, "The Mad Show." It ran for 871 performances at the New Theatre on East 54th Street and starred Ms. Lavin, Dick Libertini, MacIntyre Dixon, Paul Sand, and JoAnne Worley! The song, a send-up of the Antonio Carlos Jobim/Astrud Gilberto hit, "The Girl From Ipanema," had music by Mary Rodgers and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim (masquerading as Esteban del Rio Nido). Here, at 82, she subtly nails every nuance yet again! RIP, Ms. Lavin! You are so loved and will be so deeply missed !! (Ms. Lavin's number appears at 1:33:02 of the broadcast video.) | |
