Don't you think that final bit reinforces the dichotomy between the harmonious community and the economic isolation of Billy, and also dramatizes the decision he's made in the song in concrete terms, even as the picnickers anticipate only joy?
I always think the craft-instincts of the writers should take precedence over the choices of the actor who naturally wants to end a scene with a focus on himself; which is understandable, but.... |
