Intriguingly, I've seen multiple revivals of My Fair Lady that move the ball scene to act two - ending the show with Eliza descending the stairs at Higgins' house, preparing to go to the ball... which I suppose again leaves the audience with suspense about what will happen at the ball. (it also shortens act one a little and makes act two a little longer).
