Maybe it should have been known as "A Cautionary Musical" instead, with reference to dealing with people like Rose or some others in show biz. However, I doubt that would have ever been marketable. Things turned out well for Gypsy Rose Lee career-wise, except for her dying relatively young. June had a good career, not becoming really A-list, but she was a fine performer, and she lived well into old age though.

If you (not just you, Alan) haven't seen the Alice Faye film "Hello, Frisco, Hello" (apologies to those in San Francisco, but that's the title), it's one of the more elaborate and gorgeous Technicolor films ever; June gets to show off her singing and dancing (and splits) ability in her musical numbers with Faye, John Payne and Jack Oakie. It's a shame she wasn't billed above the title with her co-stars, but she's really good in it. Plus this might be the closest film she did that shows off her singing and dancing skills so well. The film otherwise is enjoyable, featuring the great Alice Faye's Oscar-winning signature song "You'll Never Know".

There's also on the internet silent home movie clips of 1940 "Pal Joey" with Gene Kelly and featuring June as Gladys Bumps, both really looking like they own the stage with their presence and dancing in their numbers.
