I bet Havoc was great as the original Gladys Bumps. Gladys has most all the in-show musical numbers, and the great Helen Gallagher walked off with her first Tony when she played Gladys in the 1952 revival of Pal Joey.
I recall Martha Plimpton’s stunning work as Gladys in the Studio 54 revival of Pal Joey. Stunning. And that revival was darn good, despite the last-minute cast changes.
If you’ve only seen the Frank Sinatra film, you’ve only seen a severely edited Gladys Bumps. It’s a show-stealer of a part.
