| There are highly regarded silent film versions of The Merry Widow (1925, by Erich Von Stroheim, with John Gilbert) and The Student Prince (1927, by Ernst Lubitsch, with Ramon Novarro and Norma Shearer). I've never seen them, but I believe there are DVDs available and they have been shown on TCM, although I can't vouch for that. Does anyone know if the piano accompaniment at the time was that of the original musical scores? |
