"The Student Prince in Old Heidelberg" is a wonderful film, agreed. Ramon Novarro is so sincere and moving, and Norma Shearer, quite sexy in a scene where she's checking out Novarro, also quite good, with great support from Jean Hersholt as the prince's one true friend and mentor. Besides Lubitsch's sound films, many of his silent ones are worth checking out -- the "Student Prince" has a wonderful scene I recall set against a meadow of flowers, the framing of which is gorgeous, even in black and white. Among some I'd recommend are "The Doll", "The Oyster Princess" with its glorious madcap Fox Trot musical number to its soundtrack, and "I Don't Want to Be a Man", a shorter film dealing with a girl impersonating a man to get out of the house (and sort of including a same-sex kiss way back when). The last is similar in some ways to "Victor/Victoria". All of these starred the delightful Ossi Oswalda, a marvelous and sparkling comedic actress who deserves to be remembered. Below I've linked the great foxtrot number from "The Oyster Princess".

I recall watching the von Sternberg "Merry Widow", and it's quite good as well.
