The songs are lovely, and the piece’s attempt to securely reframe the book as an ode to the corrupt underside of the American dream, and America’s spiritual death is dramaturgically admirable, if a bit in the woke vein. (The novel isn’t that grim, is it?)

What a splendidly multi-faceted work of art this novel is to provide two such fine adaptations.
All the actor/singers are fine, with Solea Pfeiffer torching us all with her Myrtle.

I think it would take wonderful Chekhovian actors to make the Fitzgerald dialogue work. Here, there’s a bit too much melodrama in whst is, yes, a melodrama. Tom is fine, but heavy upon heavy. (I think this throws the balance off (Remember Martin Donovan and Bruce Dern in the films? Tom is suffering too.)

The Nick has a desperately beautiful, aching voice. They all are marvelous singers. The writers write a scene to show us what goes on behind the Buchanans’ closed doors after the car accident which is very interesting. And Wolfsheim is not only exceedingly well-played, but his very strong and scene earns this version’s dark theme.
There’s an attempt to find an American-period-speak which stood out to me as a bit artificial.
I’m on the bus back. Overall? I’m so so so so glad I went. There is much food for thought and aspiration in this version. I highly recommend it.
