I am fascinated about comments on the Broadway GATSBY, more so after my colleague Peter Filichia's glowing comments on the cast album of that show. I saw it, and it went straight to my personal list of dismal Broadway musicals I have seen - up there with SHOGUN THE MUSICAL, PARADISE SQUARE, GETTING THE BAND BACK TOGETHER and THE PIRATE QUEEN. But then, I'm old-fashioned. I would have thought that the dialogue, and/or the music, and/or the lyrics, and/or the characterizations would have taken me into the world of Fitzgerald's great book. Rather than into what seemed , to me, another loud, vulgar, Broadway festival of pop music and garish sets and costumes. Ah well. It's the 21st Century. Gone with the wind.
