How is this harmless? Donors ("sponsors" as they're listed in the Playbill) will lose their money. With the exception of the woman playing 'Wally' and maybe one or two ensemble members, I'd argue that each performer (certainly all designers) should be embarrassed of their work -- material aside, these performers are not delivering professional (I'd settle for COMPETENT) performances. Who is thinking of the out-of-work actors who could surely improve upon this? Who is thinking of the other shows shut out of this slot at NWS (even though TEETH is coming in this Fall)?

Why would Holdren, being a director, be so critical? Maybe because it's insufferable trying to make it as an artist in this city when top tier opportunities end up in the hands of people so comically inept at delivering anything of quality or substance. Maybe she feels its her duty to tear into a production pipeline that commands the same ticket prices as many Broadway/competing shows ... I feel that anyone buying a $100 ticket to this crap will surely think twice about purchasing another face value ticket for similar live entertainment. How could you not? Bad and expensive theatre hurts all theatre, because audiences aren't in infinite supply.

I don't blame the writers -- they tried to make something, turns out it's horrible. Ok. I blame the producers who see any merit in this and somehow managed to swindle many lovely little ladies out of their money. Speaking of ... do you think Holdren feels good or badly that Cady Huffman -- someone who won a Tony Award for a performance more than twenty years ago -- gets to direct a new musical in such a high-value production slot? Do you think she thinks it's harmless that Huffman is obviously the worst candidate for such a position?

I promise you that the endless onslaught of bad things -- EMPIRE being merely the latest example -- is bad for the medium and the business.
