Ah, football culture in Europe is completely different than here. I can guarantee that 99% of the people there did not mind. Football is a unifying event that links people by their local areas as well as national identity. The ending for DEAR ENGLAND, which was about the current English football team, at the National was one of the most joyful and loveliest events I've been to in the theater, partly because the audience knew each of the players and team manager--and their struggle to win championships--so well. There were literal cheers at the curtain call. England is currently like the Cubs before they won the World Series in 2016, have not won a major international championship for 58 long years. Most people in Chicago watched the World Series and everyone in England is glued to their tellys this week.
