Sorry, no. There are plenty of good reasons to delay the start of a performance, sure. I've been a front-of-house manager, it's a decision I've taken more than once. They don't include holding the curtain so people can watch a penalty shootout.

And your statement that "everyone in England is glued to their tellys this week" simply isn't true. A lot of people are, yes. But a lot of people aren't, and the world doesn't have to grind to a halt because a football match goes into extra time.
