I think some of the passages rise to the level of pretty identical to some of his last few shows. In particular, there’s a lot of passion floating around in this one.

And turn and I was unfinished to the extent that he died before he could finish it. Whereas here, Sondheim ran out of steam and his friends found a way to make him feel better about that by saying the lack of music was a choice.

But also, Turandot is a masterpiece, whereas this show was something to keep an octogenarian busy during the pandemic. The fact that everyone fell over themselves to hold up the lotta latte bit as high poetry points to some hybrid between wanting to be nice to a dead master and emperor has no clothes syndrome.
