I'm so glad we agree.

I didn't see this revival (because of the extreme scarcity of affordable tickets during the many weeks collectively that I was in nyc during its run), but I did listen to Radcliffe's "Franklin Shepard, Inc." I'll have to take your word for it, because it feels like nothing much different or notably special. Some actors have taken the "breakdown" further than others, but I definitely don't think Lonny Price's plays as a nervous breakdown. I have never cared much for any of the cast albums of the revised versions to listen to them many times, but I don't remember ever thinking Charley was having a nervous breakdown and going crazy. An emotional and anxiety break from decorum, sure. I'm curious which productions you're referring to where it was played that way to the extent that Radcliffe's is the only one you've seen/heard that played as angry, frustrated and disappointed rather than going crazy. Though I will say, while I think he does well with the song, I am not sure the song wants to be simply angry, frustrated and disappointed... it is written to build, he even calls himself out for getting carried away. And on TV. And in front of Frank. It's not as far as a nervous breakdown but it's not as quiet as disappointed with his friend. And FWIW, while I think he is a solid actor, in the right role even better, his acting of "Good Thing Going", from the clip I saw, seems over wrought and telegramming, especially for where Charley is in the timeline of the story/relationship. So while you praise him for his restraint in "Franklin Sherpard Inc", a song written to let the actor break a bit and get carried away... I would criticize his relative lack of restraint for "Good Thing Going", a song written for restraint.

But again, in fairness, I didn't see the show live or the whole performance.
