That's not a new argument. In fact, it was made when the show played the Arena Stage in Washington, D.C. more than a year before the Broadway production. Despite the musical's significant success on Broadway, it's a divisive show, definitely not for everyone. While many people love it, others do not. It's been that way from the beginning. The film version didn't alter that feeling, one way or the other.
