Dear Evan Hansen lived in a world of metaphoric screens, where even the audience was waving through window. The metaphoric world was brilliantly assaulting Some shows have great metaphoric stage worlds that do not translate well to film., War Horse on stage was magical. A Chorus Line brilliant in a black box,, and Sweeney Todd was epic in metaphoric factory. I also suspect the high rate of teen depression during the pandemic actually made DEH too real for audiences, too scary. The film did not help.
