| Broadwaywannabe also doesn't specify whether they think the pacing is too fast or too slow. (I wish they had.) Tempi on cast recordings are often a little faster than performed onstage - that's standard. That said, the tempo marking in the score is "stately." IMO, like you, I hear all those lyrics clearly and don't know how a slightly slower or faster tempo would make them any more "clever." But we're all allowed to hear things differently. :-) If I had to guess, I assume they think it's too slow, that "faster" equals "funnier." But that might also sacrifice clarity. And the lyrics would lose cleverness if they're not clear. |
