A Little Night Music tonight

Something must have happened between last night and tonight but A Little Night Music was very good tonight. My TDF seat in row orchestra was excellent and the sound was not over amplified. Everyone seemed very comfortable with their parts and the singing was excellent all around.

Susan Graham acted and sang her part with a lot of charm tonight and I liked her voice a lot. Her Send in the Clowns was moving. Ruthie Ann Miles was perfection and both she and Kerstin Anderson worked beautifully together. Anderson has a lovely soprano and I recalled tonight how fine she was as the Eliza alternate at Lincoln Center’s My Fair Lady. Jason Gotay was very convincing at the tortured Henrik. Ron Raines was very good as Fredrik but a bit old. Marsha Mason seemed very comfortable with her songs tonight. Jin Ha and Cynthia Erivo both did strong solos of Silly People and The Miller’s Son. Someone mentioned last night that Shuler Hensley had vocal issues last night but he was good tonight.

I know last night people felt that Jonathan Tunick had conducted the score at too slow a pace. That wasn’t an issue tonight.

Tomorrow my ticket bought in the first tier has been replaced with an excellent first row orchestra center A. I got a message from the Geffen box office today that they changed my ticket because my first tier seat would have sound problems.
