Titanic's "coup de théâtre?"
Posted by: Showtunegal 05:40 pm EDT 06/15/24

In his review of Encores' Titanic, Jesse Green writes, "Kauffman does permit one visual coup de théâtre, at the end of the first act, when the iceberg is struck. I won’t give it away except to say that it is extremely simple, totally abstract and highly effective." I was sitting happily in the 2nd-to-last row of the rear mezz and could not see what he was referring to. Can anyone fill me in? Thanks!

(Also, isn't the tea tray rolling, to imply a listing ship, when it had previously been stationary, another coup de theatre? What distinguishes the one in the first act?)
