I don't know these two very well, I have to say I enjoyed their presentation. So this isn't aimed personally at them, but they haul out just about every cliche about Tony voters that I so strongly dislike and that always leave me scratching my head. lol.

This is anectdotal, but the handful of Tony voters I know have all told me---like close friends who aren't trying to spin anything for me--that they vote for who they feel is the best in their category.

I feel year after year, people like to go on and on about all the other things that sway the vote. X person was overlooked in past seasons and is "due", x person is part of a show where a lot of other people will or won't win. x person is from a closed show, x person won a few years ago and so it's too soon for them to win again, x person is beloved in the community.

Another common one (not mentioned in this video) is that all the presenters from the road vote as a block. That would suggest they all somehow meet, confer, and agree on their list of who to vote for. This feels much more implausible to me than the alternative--that they vote for who they think is the best in their category. I know a few of these voters as well, and they have also said they do not vote as a block.

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying politics is completely absent. If a voter is in some way connected to a show or nominee, I can see where they might vote for that person or show over something they actually thought was better work. It's interesting no one ever mentions this among all the other consipracy theories about what sways voters :-)

Anyhow, I don't know. Am I just terribly naive and idealistic in thinking voters mostly vote for who they think is best without weighing these multitide of other considerations? Not terribly important in the long run, but hey it's Tony weekend so it's on my mind!
