| That kind of confirms the idea that Rose pushes June because she can "pass". Were there Black strippers in "white" vaudeville and burlesque houses? Or is the inference that Herbie has inadvertently booked the act into a stop on the chitlin circuit? And is Rose appalled by the idea partly because of internalized racism? It's all pretty interesting. I'm eager to see how it all comes out in the wash. I think Burstein's the best choice I can think of. He's a mensch but he has a spine (even though Herbie claims he doesn't have one). Chris Fitzgerald seems a bit young next to Audra (they are probably the same age!) and Skybell is just so freaking dashing. (A handsome Tevye didn't bother me, so I suppose a handsome Herbie isn't out of the question.) I'm forgetting the specific story: is it discussed whether June and Louise have the same father? |
