Most Everybody was no less than ok. The Arvide (“More I Cannot Wish You”) was excellent. Mary Testa, in my estimation, was sensational; she may have been too sensational, but at least someone was being sensational. The Gilmore girl’s Adelaide was very appealing, tho she seemed underschooled in musical comedy. The Sarah was fine; a good singer and actress, the unfreezing of her rigidity was touching. Bierko as Sky was fine in a workmanlike fashion. Which brings us to Oliver Platt. Something seemed wrong with him and his energy. His work is often droll and understated, but here he seemed depressed, perhaps deeply, physically exhausted. So of course Nathan Detroit was disturbing. The show still worked. The songs; the story, and its structure are impeccable. |
