What the heck about Mary Testa stood out -was she "Doing Number 17 - The Spread Eagle"?
Wasn't there something about her yelling "spank me, daddy" or similar during "Sit Down, You're Rockin' The Boat?"
Though I always figured she was just doing what she was asked to do by Des NotEnough, not that it was her own bit. But I don't know.
And of course, the whole idea of General Cartwright having an epiphany during the song (complete with high note in the 1992 production) is actually a steal from "Brotherhood Of Man" from How To Succeed. Which might be why the Broderick revival in 1995 felt they had to re-invent that number - unfortunately making it about corporate white men not being able to clap off the beat like the black folks (seemingly) do. That was awful. |
