SCHMIGADOON at the Kennedy Center

Rarely post anymore but wanted to share some thoughts on the world premiere of SCHMIGADOON onstage at the Kennedy Center in DC as part of the Broadway Center Stage. In a word - hilarious. The song list stays pretty true to the original from the Apple TV series (Betsy gets a new song called "Not That Kinda Girl"). Some things I had completely forgotten from when I watched the series. Ann Harada reprises her role as Florence Menlove. All others were new and brought great new takes on the roles. Alex Brightman and Sara Chase take on the roles of Josh and Melissa. Standouts for me were Brad Oscar as Mayor Menlove and Emily Skinner as Mildred Layton. There were so many numbers I'd frankly forgotten about from the tv series (I wish I'd gone back and rewatched before the show) - but honestly, it made the numbers fresh and new again. I DO wish Javier Munoz had more to do as Doc Lopez - the script just didn't give a chance to build out that character enough.

Full house last night at the KC - and based on audience reaction, I REALLY hope this gains legs and considers a transfer. If you get a chance, take the trip down to DC and catch the show. Really a lot of fun (that is desperately needed after a hellish two weeks here in DC).
