I see what you're both saying about how Rich's review impacted the further development of the show, but my issue with it was that it effectively killed the nascent company that was starting at Purchase to develop new musicals. If I remember correctly, the company that was presenting this early production of KISS OF THE SPIDERWOMAN was also due to present a further season of 2 or 3 other developing shows. And I don't think any of that ever happened. Maybe the whole idea of incubating new musicals up there, not quite far enough from the city to deter critics from coming, wasn't sustainable, but the people behind it didn't really even get a chance to try. |
