...but my brother went to NYU Tisch with Julie Benz. She's now best known for Dexter, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Jawbreaker, but when I was a kid, she was on a short-lived sitcom that I *loved* called "Hi, Honey! I'm Home!" (with theatre regular Susan Cella). When I visited him, I got to hang out with her, and I was totally starstruck. I couldn't believe I was speaking to someone I'd seen on television! This was probably only a year or two after I'd seen Gypsy, so it was an exciting escalation in firsthand experience I had with people I knew from TV. And you're absolutely right: social media has changed all of that. I know public figures who have been freaked out when they meet fans who think they have more personal relationships with them than they do because they follow them on Instagram or TikTok.

It sounds like you're a bigger fan of Burstein than I am. I've been known to describe his performance in the semi-recent Broadway revival Fiddler as the best Tevye...understudy...I'd ever seen...if it had been in Cleveland. I've admired some of his performances more than others--I thought he was a lot of fun in The Drowsy Chaperone, for example--but I'm curious if you saw Pictures From Home, specifically because of your description of his work as looking easy. There are times that's been true, but, in Pictures, I thought he was working embarrassingly hard.

All that being said, I very much agree with your remark that the "impact of his leaving revolves around how it affects Rose, not how it affects Herbie." I hadn't yet been able to articulate that myself, but it's incredibly insightful because the moment DID have an emotional effect on me...but it wasn't because I cared about their relationship or Herbie; it was only beacuse I cared about Rose.
