| I saw the Connecticut Rep “Gypsy” and thought Leslie Uggams was a phenomenal Rose. Her breakdown was visceral and vocally she was quite commanding. It was color-blind type of performance. Definitely a treasured theater memory for me. I was incredibly happy I made the trip to Storrs to see her. I have not seen Audra yet but I have seen four Rose’s (two on Broadway, two regionally) and Ms. Uggams comes in 2nd out of 4 for me. I really wish she had been given the opportunity to perform Rose years ago on Broadway. |
