"Broadway in Chicago opened the beloved musical LES MISÉRABLES at the Cadillac Palace Theatre the week of December 17, 2024. Since premiering in Paris in 1980 and London in 1985, the production has received many accolades including becoming the longest-running musical in the West End (currently performing at the Sondheim Theatre) and the winner of eight 1987 Tony Awards including Best Musical. The musical has been produced in 53 countries and translated into 22 languages. As a 44-year old musical, LES MISÉRABLES (or Les Mis for short) continues to remain strong as a production on redemption, resilience, morality, and love." - from my recent review of the touring production, LES MISÉRABLES. This review is dedicated to the memory of Judith McCarthy Werner.
