| Only slightly OT: I saw Uggams play Sally Bowles on the Uber circuit back in the day. It doesn't seem a comparable interpretative issue, yet no actress of color has played Sally until the current staging, correct? None had a shot in either the Prince of Mendes iterations that I recall. Suffice it to say, Uggams was terrific, if overqualified for the seedy Kit Kat Klub (but how many Sallys face that?) I wish Uggams had her shot at Rose (and other roles) on B'way. |
