| I actually thought it was better than I remembered. Sure Lucy is no singer but she's really no worse than Channing or Bacall. The film has its pleasures...Bea Arthur is pretty great...Preston has a pretty new song..Costumes and production design are lavish...Lucy is good in the scene where she realizes how awful the Upsons are.... I think most of the outrage through the years is that it wasn't Angela...but by 1973 when this was filmed..I don't think anyone would have made this movie had Lucy not made it happen. It definitely deserved a TV movie remake that nearly happened with Streisand, then Cher. Lots of viable candidates could do it today. |
