Lansbury brought other aspects to the role that no one else has. (I've seen most of em, except Merman)
She was all at once a lady, pushy, conniving, sweet, obsessed, obnoxious, sad and finally resigned. And that bow at the end of Rose's Turn was scary and startling.
Amazing. Patti finally got to where she should have been on Broadway. Believe it or not, Linda Lavin's Roses Turn was one of the best.
But Lansbury caught many extra shades of the character. |
