| It's been almost 16 years since the closing performance--which I saw--of the LuPone/Benanti GYPSY, so my memory could be faulty. But I definitely never got the sense at the end that Louise was laughing AT Rose, but WITH her. I do NOT have the libretto but I could swear that the closing lines did not give Benanti--or any other Louise I've seen--a final moment to be harsh to Rose. |
