''Take me to a zoo that's got chimpanzees ...'' I agree that it's a clunky phrase, but Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote the lovely melody. Don Black wrote the lyrics to ''Tell Me on a Sunday.'' What's always puzzled me is WHY it's got to be ''a zoo that's got chimpanzees.'' As opposed to all the zoos that DON'T have chimpanzees? That's prefaced by: ''I know the way we should spend that day.'' Is going to the zoo and seeing chimpanzees especially relaxing and comforting? Earlier in the song: ''Take me to a park that's covered with trees.'' Don't most parks have lots of trees? Are there parks that are barren of trees? Black is a Tony winner for his lyrics to ''Sunset Blvd'' and an Oscar winner for ''Born Free,'' but maybe this ''Sunday'' lyric isn't his best work. |
