Hi all,

Here are my thoughts.

I enjoyed "Tammy Faye". But they are right on target that it has lots of issues.

The score is not great, the book is not great, the lyrics are excellent.

The score is not one of Elton John's best although it's listenable and enjoyable.
You won't walk out humming anything.

The lyrics by Jake Shears are great. They're the only thing in this show
with a brain.

The problem is the book: What can't be helped is the story is a downer. To counteract that
you have to make it interesting, have something to say. This show has no point of view, has nothing
to say about Tammy and Jim but to illustrate a few facts. Nothing about materialism, nothing about
manipulating religion for gain, nothing about the mindboggling HYPOCRISY
OF IT ALL (or, in contrast, some psychological insight as to how they justified what they did in their minds).
NOTHING. It can't be fixed, because it's too late to get A POINT.

There is so much performing talent, but a lot of it is wasted in ugly costumes
and uninspired choreography.

Cerveris is a brilliant characterization of Jerry Falwell, unrecognizable from the other roles I've seen him in.
Borle is NOT miscast, he is criminally under-utilized. This great talent has nothing to do in
Act Two but cry once or twice. I'm a big Borle fan, and everything about him is great, there's just not
enough of it.

Katie Brayben is the show's heart and soul. She is Tammy in spirit and voice, and sings
fabulously in a deeply felt performance. She IS the show.

I didn't have a problem that it was in flashback (although that usually annoys me).

The applause tonight was tepid. It has the smell of a stinker, even though I thought
all in all, in spite of its flaws it was pretty fun anyway, because there was so
much talent. If you're not really into the material, it's probably not for you.

Like I said, I had a pretty good time.
