| Dreamgirls: I go for the concert because despite some issues, it is soooo much more complete and makes me feel like I have actually experienced the show. The OBCR has legendary performers, of course, but I find myself thinking the whole time about how mad I am that the recording was done in the way it was. Follies: of course I have the original and one must, but it all feels so rushed and everything behind that is well documented, I know I know. I usually switch between the Philharmonic concert (because it was my introduction to the show and I like the live excitement) and Papermill (because it is so complete and I actually SAW it so I have the memories to go along). A Little Night Music: while I don't think there is a staggering difference between them in quality and content, I reach for the OLCR more because it was the first version I had and I especially adore Jean Simmons. |
