It was a model that was no longer sustainable. 100 apprentices paying $3000 a piece ( not to mention the 60 hour work week they put in). With that $300,000 plus revenue they could stage 20-30 characters extravaganzas. I never worked there ( but worked 2 seasons at the Berkshire Theatre Festival) but talked with enough folks who did not have the summer they hoped for.
Your fantasy of 10 to 20 well know actors dedicated a couple of months to any place is just that- a fantasy. Lovely to dream about but not practical in any way. |
