Could Starlight Express get the "Cats:The Jellicle Ball" treatment?

Just discovered this cast recording from the early 90's. Take away the skates, and you still have a stack of fun songs with exciting arrangements. Yes, the "Express" part of it would be tricky in the re-imagining. All those races. Has the show done in an unconventional way?
