The only performer comparable to Day in terms of popularity as a film and recording star is Sinatra. He, too never appeared in a Broadway show but, of course had a major long lasting career in concerts and in Vegas. Day did get out of the debt her husband left her in by doing the Doris Day sitcom. Even though Streisand may not have enjoyed live performing she still did (post 2000). Day would have every opportunity to sing live but never did as far as anyone can remember.
