Some people seem to think that Suzy was a prostitute before she shows up in Monterey, but I don't think that's what the script indicates. It seems like she's been bumming around, generally homeless.
Fauna takes her in, against her better judgment. And it turns out that Fauna's instincts were right: As a prostitute, Suzy is a bust. It doesn't get any more specific than that.
I just took a quick look at some of Sweet Thursday, borrowing it from Internet Archive. It's a bit ambiguous there whether Suzy had ever been a prostitute before she arrives in Monterey. Maybe later in the book it becomes clearer. |
