| In George S. Kaufman's play "The Butter and Egg Man" from 1925, one of the characters is an older actress named Mary Martin. When this was done recently in NY, apparently the theater company renamed her Mary McMartin to keep any confusion of her for modern audiences to that big musical theater star. |
