That has always mystified me...not only were the SUPERMAN comics 10 years old at that point, there were already radio and film adaptations happening. It's difficult for me to believe that no one involved with KISS ME KATE was familiar with or had even heard of Superman and, by extension, the Lois Lane character. I mean, even if the Spewacks were unaware, did no one feel comfortable pointing this out to them at any point in the writing or rehearsal process? It's not as if there's some plot situation or clever Porter lyric that depends on the character being called Lois Lane. Can you imagine a new musical coming along in 2024 with a character that just happens to be called Katniss Everdeen or James Kirk?
