| I would say you're right on a basic level - the contours of all 4 of these are the same, with the 2nd note always the lowest, the 4th note always the highest, and the stress on the 5th note. But yes, the individual lines are all very different in terms of intervals. (I actually did a quick comparison of the 4 phrases using Finale, but I'm not sure how to link the PDF here. It's interesting to look at.) So what you're hearing is definitely a similar kind of pattern, even if the notes don't match up. |
