Musicals are a lot more expensive to put on than plays, calling for musicians, ensembles of singers and dancers, a choreographer, more scene changes presumably, etc. It's possible Mr. Odom would be happy to do the musical version if he has the opportunity to do so, but it's a matter of economics, too.

I'm thinking of other people who did non-musical versions of play who could have done the musical. I'm thinking Shirley Booth, wonderful in the film of "The Matchmaker" would have done equally as well had she done "Hello, Dolly!" again playing Dolly Levi. She had starred in at least 4 musicals on Broadway. Of course, Lila Kedrova did both film (ok, not the play) of "Zorba the Greek" and the musical stage "Zorba" revival. Any others you might think of?
