| I dislike the new cast recording. This production unfortunately throws out most of the basic original arrangements. At least the movie (and more recent TV version) respected and honored Harold Wheeler's original work. They could have done a dazzling reduction of Wheeler's originals, (which have NOT dated) (The revival of 'Pippin' did a beautiful reduction/update of Ralph Burns' originals.) This "The Wiz" sounds like a distortion of the score I grew up loving. The new cast recording is the reason I'm not bothering to see the show. It's selling very well, but I'm very disappointed musically. |
